White Fillings
White Fillings
At Mountain Kids Pediatric Dentistry, we do everything we can to provide superior dental care for your child. Because of this we only offer white fillings for your children’s teeth.
Why we provide white fillings
- White fillings tend to be less sensitive to hot & cold temperatures. Leading to less sensitivity for your child.
- Less of your child’s tooth structure is typically able to be removed. This means your child’s tooth is not weakened as much as it would be during the application of a silver filling.
- White fillings do not corrode the same as silver fillings and are mercury-free.
- They’re more aesthetically pleasing.
What to expect if your child is getting a white filling
- Cavities may be detected during your child’s routine dental visit or if you bring them in due to tooth pain.
- Typically we will schedule a follow-up appointment for your child to get their filling done once treatment is diagnosed by a dentist.
- Many children may benefit from the use of nitrous, especially if they’re scared or upset. We will discuss nitrous as an option to provide additional comfort to your child during the procedure.
- Depending on the location & size of the cavity, we may numb your child’s mouth before moving forward.
- We will remove the cavity and then place a white filling where the decay was removed from the tooth.
Do baby teeth require fillings?
The short answer is yes, any tooth experiencing a cavity requires a treatment. A few reasons you still need to get fillings on baby teeth include:
- Untreated cavities will continue to progress and get bigger. Some baby teeth do not fall out until 12 years old.
- Untreated cavities can cause significant pain & discomfort for your child.
- Untreated cavities can lead to infection.
- Unhealthy teeth can create difficulties speaking & eating for your child.
The best way to prevent fillings is to attend your routine dental appointments, brush & floss your child’s teeth in the AM & PM daily and avoid sticky treats like fruit snacks.
